20 Under 40 Class of 2025: John Musczala
I’m very fortunate to have grown up in an aviation family. There aren’t many Muszala’s in the US but most of us are involved with warbirds. I’m a 4th generation pilot and 3rd generation A&P IA. My great Grand Father on my father’s side flew Sopwith Camels in WWI. My Grand Father was a B-24 guy in the PTO durning WWII. My father was one of the original “Chino Kids”. I’ve been around warbirds my entire life. Grew up riding my bike around Chino Airport and building model planes. My family moved to Idaho Falls, ID when I was 10. I started flying when I was 17. I was lucky enough to start flying T-6s and learn from some incredible people, not just with flying, but restoring, and maintaining warbirds as well. I have a lot of people to thank. They taught and worked with a kid that liked airplanes. I’m very grateful. I’ve been extremely lucky to fly the P-51 series A-K. No, haven’t flown the H model. One of my childhood dreams was to race the Unlimited Class at Reno. I was able to accomplish that dream and even raced in the last UNL race held at Reno Stead Airport. I now run the family restoration business Pacific Fighters and am grateful everyday to walk into the shop. I can’t imagine my life without warbirds in it. I really appreciate you guys thinking of me for the Warbirds 20 under 40.
