Carter Moon began spending time with Commemorative Air Force Minnesota Wing at 8 years old.  He
instantly was a favorite of the maintenance personnel, cracking jokes and helping with any project he
could.  He learned quickly and began spending more time gaining knowledge of how aircraft worked
and what to watch out for.  At 13 he was practicing pre-flight inspections by himself and noticed
something didn’t sound right.  The ailerons of the aircraft were miss rigged and could have led to
failure.

Carter also spent time washing aircraft around the airport to make a few extra dollars or in exchange for
flight experience.  He began working for Wipaire on the night shift during high school as a mechanics
assistant and after high school, Carter found himself looking for work and took what he could to help
support himself and his family.  He drove a tow truck but was still always helping at the CAF.
Realizing that aviation was his true passion, and got a job working for TP Aero, maintaining an
Albatross and Howard 500.  With his experience at TP Aero, along with the CAF, he was able to
receive approval from the FAA to test for his A&P by the age of 22.

Since receiving his A&P, Carter has been an asset to the warbird maintenance community. His daily
support of TP Aero aside, he has supported other operators, such as Walt Bowe with the other Howard
500 flying.  Carter drove overnight hauling an R-2800 cylinder, arriving in Indiana in the morning to help
Bernie Vasquez replace the cylinder and get the Howard back flying that day.  He started his own
company, Moon Aero, performing maintenance and detailing services, inspecting and repairing
warbirds from Stearman’s, T-6’s, P-51’s, L-39’s and Marchetti S.211, even stepping up to support the
Fairey Gannet.  He contracts additional maintainers and inspectors to support his company.  This is in
addition to the dedication and focus that he puts on the TP Aero aircraft.

Carter has an eye for inspections, seeing things that others easily miss and digs deeply into a problem
to solve it.  While only having his A&P for two years, he has 15 years of experience maintaining aircraft,
and that expertise shows through with everything he does.
